It is time to venture into space with our fun DIY cutout rocket card! This card is made by cutting out a rocket shape from a piece of paper or cardstock and then decorating. We have made it super simple with our free rocket printable. A perfect card for Father’s Day, birthdays, or as a special surprise for someone you love.

DIY cutout rocket cards

This is a great card for kids of all ages to make. Younger children will need help with cutting out the shapes but they will still have loads of fun decorating their rocket.

Like with many of our DIY crafts you can adapt this activity to suit your needs and the materials that you have at home. Color in your rocket with pens or pencils, alternatively the rocket would look extra cool collaged using magazine clippings! Have a hunt through your craft box to see what extra items you can add to bling up your rocket. Our rockets started with just the colored paper but Miss 6 and Miss 8 wanted to get a little more crafty which really has boosted our final rockets. Do what works for you!

You Will Need

The items listed below are what we used to create our rockets.

Printables

For this DIY rocket cutout card we have two different printables for you to either print or save for later. The first is the rocket template. This printable is great as it means that you don’t need to draw your own rocket! The second printable contains a message that can go inside of your card, “I love you to the moon and back”. You can also cut out the other space images to decorate the inside of your rocket with.

Let’s Make A Rocket Card

How to make a rocket card

Start by printing off the printable and gathering all of your supplies.

Cut out the rocket printable. Fold the piece of A4 paper/cardstock in half lengthways. Place the rocket printable onto the folded paper so the side is right up against the fold. You do not want to cut the parts that touch the fold otherwise you will end out with separate rockets and not a rocket card. Trace around the outside of the rocket printable and then cut out.

Using the colored paper cut out each section of the rocket in the color of your choice. Thin paper you will be able to place the rocket printable under the paper and trace around. Otherwise cut out each section of the rocket so you can use the same tracing-around technique that you used to draw the rocket shape onto your A4 piece of paper/ cardstock.

Glue each rocket section onto your rocket card using the gluestick. If you are using a photo to put inside of the window you can do this after the windows have been added to the rocket. Simply cut around the image and stick into the window.

Add on any extra details. We used washi tape, paper strips and colored pens to add some contrast to our rockets. Add whatever you like that would stick well from your craft box. Adhesive gems and stickers work well.

Open up your rocket card and either stick in our message from the printable or write your own special message.

Blast off to give your card to someone special!
