Prepare to be wowed by this diy stunning artistic stairway revamp! It is incredible how Raj Art from Just Arts and Crafts managed to completely transform the stairway by using artistic talent and diy skills. This is a fantastic way to turn a wooden staircase into an area of the home to be proud of!

The vision and talent behind this amazing stairway revamp is Raj Rani Khosla. Originally from Amritsar in India but she has been living in England for over 25 years. Raj has spent many years working in schools doing art workshops.  She has exhibited widely within the North-East of England as well as exhibiting work in the Golden Temple in Amritsar, India. It’s safe to say Raj is extremely talented so we are very excited to be able to share some of her amazing work with you all!

Looking at Raj’s work over at Just Arts and Crafts it is easy to see why she says, “art is like a mystery, I enjoy experimenting with new idea and processes in art”. She manages to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. Beautiful rocks into works of art, old newspaper into artwork and artwork into home decor. Her diy stunning artistic stairway revamp is a perfect example of what a big impact vision and talent can produce.

How It Was Done

Raj started by painting her tree image with oil paints onto large sheets of thick cardboard like paper. Over the thick paper, a double coat of gesso was applied before painting. Each section was carefully measured and cut to stick on the risers. Once the artwork had been glued in place it was varnished to ensure longevity. There really couldn’t be a nicer way to display artwork!

If you are not much of an artist don’t despair as it is possible to paint solid colors or wallpaper the risers for a fun patterned effect. Another option is to decoupage other paper onto the risers. Decoupaging is a method of gluing paper or fabric onto almost any surface before coating in many thin layers of sealant.

Raj said “I hope next time I will be more daring and paint them on directly”, this is certainly an option but we love this technique she used today.

A big thank you to Raj Art from Just Arts and Crafts for letting us share your beautiful work. We hope it inspires others to complete their own artistic stairway revamp!
