You Will Need

One of the great things about foil art crafts is that they require hardly any supplies. Once you have a good supply of Sharpie Pens or other permanent you will be able to create all sorts of foil art crafts as well as using them for other fun art and craft projects.

For this craft you will need:

  • Sharpie pens or other permanent markers in a range of colors.
  • Cardboard. An old cardboard box is perfect.
  • Aluminum foil. Do not use the magic non-stick variety as the pens will not work on that type of foil!
  • Glue Stick.
  • Scissors.
  • A copy of our free star printable below (or draw your own stars).

Let’s Get Creating

These awesome foil art stars are made in two parts. The star base and then decorating. It is a good idea to make the star bases ahead of time, especially if you are doing this craft with younger children. Older children will be able to make the star bases but they may need help with cutting the cardboard.

how to make foil art stars

Star Base

To make the star bases you will need to draw a star onto a piece of cardboard. The easiest way to do this is to print out our free star printable, cut it out and trace around the outline of the star. Make as many cardboard stars as you would like to decorate. Try making them in different sizes!

Make the stars an achievable size. Too large and kids will lose interest, too small and they will be decorated too quickly! The printable has three different sized stars but you can make them in any size you like.

Now that you have your stars cutout of cardboard it is time to cover them in foil. Using the glue stick completely cover on side of your cardboard star with glue and press onto the foil. Cut around the star so there is some extra foil left arond the edges and fold and stick the extra foil to the back of the star. Repeat this for all of your stars. Have a look at our photo to see how we cut and fold our stars.

The star bases should all now be made. Time to get decorating!

Decorating

Now for the easy and fun part, decorating! Decorate in any way you like, add a face or create a cool pattern. Make all of your stars the same or make them all different. You can even get the craft box out and add some extra embellishments. Don’t forget that the markers are permant so be sure to put something underneath your stars so the surface you are working on doesn’t get damaged.

Have fun creating your foil art stars. We would love to see all of the fablous patterns and ways that you have decorated your stars!
