How to make Strawberry Jam in just 6 easy steps!
It also makes a fantastic, super-cheap, seriously impressive gift. Why? Because people love jam and, for some reason, everyone thinks making it is really hard.
1Get the Ingredients
- 2kg Strawberries
- 2lg Preserving Sugar
- Juices of 13 Lemons
2Hull the Strawberries
Hull the strawberries and place them in a non-reactive bowl (stainless steel, china or glass). Sprinkle over the sugar and lemon juice. Leave in the fridge overnight.
3Chill then Heat
Put a small plate in the fridge to chill. Tip the contents of the bowl into a large, heavy-bottomed pan and heat gently until all the sugar has dissolved. Turn up the heat and boil vigorously for 5 minutes.
4See if Jam Starts Setting
Turn off the heat and test for setting point. If jam is not setting, bring it back to the boil for 2 minutes and retest.
5Cool and Skim
Once setting point has been reached, allow to cool for 5 minutes, then skim off any scum.
